Postcard Effectiveness

Postcard promotion is one of the ways to market your product to specific target audience. In my design business, I did not find mailing postcard responsive at all. But when I think myself as a consumer to Victoria Secrets or to Coach or an Event that I like, especially if they offer 50% off or some benefit, I will keep the postcard in my purse and use it later. What did I just reveal to you?

I am a typical consumer that likes deals. This offer benefited the consumer and it compels them to act on the offer. These kind of marketing work well when you target to the things that consumers like and need. We need to find out what our target audience's profile and shoot them offers that they can respond to. That is one sure way to get business or leads. Check out how Groupon entice their audience. They have a questionnaire to find more targeted audience simply asking in a way that is appealing in simple graphics and content.

Here is an article by Overnight Prints that I find it relevant to marketing:

Postcard Efficiency
Postcard mailings are one of the most cost-effective ways to reach your customers. Whether you're looking to drive traffic to your website or reach new customers, postcard marketing is a great way to generate a response.

To help you reach new customers, explore companies selling mailing lists. Spend some time looking at your customer demographics and creating a profile for types of customers you are trying to reach. You may want to go after a new type of customer. It's important to know who you are trying to market to because the more targeted your list is, the better your response rate will be. The right mailing list targeting the right demographic will help you get the best return on investment.

To have a strong response rate, your message should be clear and concise. Don't try to say too much. Communicate your message and require customers to take action in order to find out more - go to your website, call, come to your store.

Avoid using "all caps" for more than a word or two. Instead of adding emphasis to a portion of your message, it will add emphasis to none of your message.

Remember that a picture is worth a thousand words. Use images to help convey your message while keeping the text on your postcard brief and to the point.
