El Lissitzky: Constructor

I love El Lissitzky's work and what it stands for. In design, there must always be some thought and meaning in it. Why do we look at our past masters and study them? Our work tells a story of the present time. Sometimes we get ideas from the past and juxtapose them into the present. Creating and discovering something new.

This is a drawing from my iPhone:

This is my campaign that was influence by El Lissitzky:

And there is more coming.. like a poster about branding. Later...

A little write up on my master, El Lissistzky

Lazar Markovich Lissitzky (help·info) (Russian: Ла́зарь Ма́ркович Лиси́цкий) (November 23 [O.S. November 11] 1890 – December 30, 1941), better known as El Lissitzky (Russian: Эль Лиси́цкий, Yiddish: על ליסיצקי), was a Russian artist, designer, photographer, typographer, polemicist and architect. He was an important figure of the Russian avant garde, helping develop suprematism with his mentor, Kazimir Malevich, and designing numerous exhibition displays and propaganda works for the former Soviet Union. His work greatly influenced the Bauhaus and constructivist movements, and he experimented with production techniques and stylistic devices that would go on to dominate 20th-century graphic design.[1]

El Lissitzky's entire career was laced with the belief that the artist could be an agent for change, later summarized with his edict, "das zielbewußte Schaffen" (goal-oriented creation).[2] Lissitzky, of Jewish faith, began his career illustrating Yiddish children's books in an effort to promote Jewish culture in Russia, a country that was undergoing massive change at the time and that had just repealed its antisemitic laws. At the age of 15 he started teaching; a duty he would stay with for most of his life.

Over the years, he taught in a variety of positions, schools, and artistic media, spreading and exchanging ideas. He took this ethic with him when he worked with Malevich in heading the suprematist art group UNOVIS. There, he developed a variant suprematist series of his own, Proun, and further still in 1921, when he took up a job as the Russian cultural ambassador to Weimar, Germany. Working with and influencing important figures of the Bauhaus and De Stijl movements during his stay.

In his remaining years he brought significant innovation and change to typography, exhibition design, photomontage, and book design, producing critically respected works and winning international acclaim for his exhibition design. This continued until his deathbed, where in 1941 he produced one of his last works – a Soviet propaganda poster rallying the people to construct more tanks for the fight against Nazi Germany.

All About Steve Jobs

If there is any guy that is the most inspirational, it would be Steve Jobs for me. I cannot believe that Steve would be fired from his company that he and Steve Wozniak had created... and yet to re-emerged with the Next computer system successfully, was indeed brilliant. Then bringing Apple Computer to where it is today and on top of that facing a grave illness of cancer and overcoming it, is truly amazing. Steve Jobs has an incredible spirit of perseverance and persistence that is shown in his leadership style and strength.

I love Steve's two quotes:
"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life," Jobs said. "Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice."

"I'm pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn't been fired from Apple," Jobs said. "I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did."

• Love What You Do

The Famous Emigre

I am a big fan of Émigré since I was in school till now. Their type is really rebellious, super creative and retrospective. This is a company that wants to do great work and yet he gives us creative opportunities to express ourselves through his typography and ideas.

I saw him initially, he was giving a talk about his type how designers actually wanted to buy his type, He has branded himself as a company using his very own unique style. It took some years, and now, I am proud to say he is well renown in the design field. This company has really been an inspiring and motivating source of vehicle to me. Be inspired and be prepared to open your eyes, for the world is more than what you think it is.

Evelyn Glennie: Listen More Deeply

http://www.ted.com/talks/evelyn_glennie_shows_how_to_listen.html

Evelyn Glennie has been super inspiring to me. It is amazing how we take people, ourselves and our abilities for granted. By looking deeply within ourselves, we can actually create more than what we are taught by teachers or what is so called the right way. There are more than one way of doing things. By exploring and being open to possibilities... will make our senses and abilities elevated so much more. Our past doctrines may be the bases and the start of doing what is right and acceptable, but don't just stopping there, for it may be a miss opportunity.

Don't be afraid to explore, being open to new ideas and being the first to be different. Extend your mind in creative ways of innovation and the world will open up to you.

Bryan Copas

I was at my wits end, trying to find a great forensic accountant. I googled (Thank God for Google) forensic accountant and a whole list showed up... I was appalled by how bad the website were. I was so compelled to approach these people and redesign to help them with their brand. But I had to put my passion aside, and concentrate on finding a great forensic accountant. Lo and behold, there was this website that seemed interesting. Black and white, just like a lawyer's document. When I read the content, it compelled me to call and see how good this person was.

There was something in his voice, and the words he said, that I felt that he knew what he was doing. My gut feeling said he was the one. Bryan turned out to be a gold mine.

He was super thorough and he was a genius about numbers. He could trace where the numbers went from a very, very intense and complex portfolio. Without Copas and Copas, my case would have been moot.

Introduction of My Super Heroes

I want to create my list of Super Heroes. Super Heroes to me are the people who are super good and passionate at what they do. They are also tough and yet honest at the same time. They care about people and make a positive difference in people's lives.
